Letters of a Midwest Aviator

This blog is a journal of my aviation challenges and adventures. I fly the Piper Archer II and the Zenith Air Zodiac XL. I have had my private pilot license since age 20 and have always enjoyed the thrill of flying.

Father's Day Flight

Father's Day comes every year and I always find myself doing the same things for Dad. Usually it's going out to eat and getting him something for the house, garage, or tools. This year, I wanted to break away from the ordinary. I was trying to come up with something unique that would be fun for us to do together and give him something to be proud about. I immediately thought about my flying. Aviation is a typical interest a father and son would share and I know he is very proud to have a son that is a pilot.

I called my mom on the phone and ran it by her. She thought it was a good idea and asked my Dad if that was something he wanted to do. So, I picked my Dad up and we drove to the airport. We took off and headed up to Grimes Field in Urbana for a quick bite to eat and talk. I brought along a Father's Day card for my Dad and gave it to my Dad while we were sitting in the airport cafe. After we spent some time together, we flew back to Dayton and I drove him back home.

Great idea for a gift... hopefully I'll be able to do something similar for my dad next year!
